On International Day of Older Persons, Silver Streak Hospital Brings 80+ Senior Citizens Together for ‘The Art of Healthy Ageing’

Gurugram: October is observed as the International Day of Older Persons, highlighting the importance of the health, dignity and well-being of older people. Marking the occasion, Silver Streak Multispeciality Hospital organised a special session titled ‘The Art of Healthy Ageing’, bringing together more than 80 senior citizens from nearby residential societies for an engaging programme focused on healthcare awareness, everyday safety and emotional well-being.

The session aimed to encourage senior citizens to take a proactive approach to their health while creating a welcoming space for interaction, shared experiences and recreation. The programme brought together medical guidance, practical safety advice and activities designed to make the gathering both informative and enjoyable.

The hospital’s Psychiatrist and General Surgeon conducted sessions on health-related concerns relevant to older adults, highlighting the importance of timely medical attention and healthy habits. Participants also received guidance on fire safety while driving and precautions to prevent electric shocks, focusing on practical measures that can help them stay safe in their daily lives.

The gathering also featured songs, quizzes, laughter and experiences shared by the residents, adding a lively and personal touch to the programme. Birthdays of a few senior citizens were celebrated during the event. They were presented with shawls as a gesture of respect and appreciation, followed by a cake-cutting celebration.

Dr. V. K. Gupta, Founder, Managing Director & Senior Neurosurgeon, Silver Streak Multispeciality Hospital, said, “Healthy ageing is not just about managing illnesses; it is about helping people maintain their independence, confidence and quality of life as they grow older. Along with access to timely medical care, awareness about everyday safety, emotional well-being and staying socially connected plays an important role in ageing well. Through initiatives like ‘The Art of Healthy Ageing’, we want senior citizens to feel informed, valued and supported. Their health and happiness deserve attention not just on one day, but throughout the year.”

Through this initiative, Silver Streak Multispeciality Hospital reaffirmed the importance of community-based healthcare awareness and the need to address the well-being of senior citizens beyond clinical treatment. The programme brought medical awareness and social engagement together, recognising that healthy ageing also depends on dignity, companionship, safety and continued participation in community life.
