How Clear Supps Is Building Trust in India’s Sports Nutrition Market: Vishnu Menon on Transparency and Quality

Clear Supps is a sports nutrition brand built on a simple idea: consumers should know exactly what they are putting into their bodies. As India’s supplement market grows, more buyers are comparing labels, questioning vague claims and looking for brands they can trust. In this exclusive interview with IANS, Vishnu Menon, Co-Founder & CEO of Clear Supps, explains why he started the brand and what gap in India’s sports nutrition market it set out to address. He also talks about what sets Clear Supps apart from other supplement brands, how the company approaches product quality and consistency, and how it balances efficacy, taste, and consumer expectations in every formulation. Menon also outlines the brand’s plans for the next phase, including new product categories and its long-term goal of becoming a trusted name in Indian sports nutrition. Read on to find out how Clear Supps is shaping the conversation around transparency, quality, and informed supplement choices in India.

1. What was the idea behind starting Clear Supps, and what gap in India’s sports nutrition market did you want to address?

Clear Supps came out of a gap we’d seen up close for years: Indian consumers were being asked to trust supplement labels they had no real way to verify. Proprietary blends, underdosed formulas, and vague ingredient claims had become the industry norm rather than the exception, and very few brands were willing to disclose exactly what was in a product and at what dose. We wanted to build something structurally different – a brand where transparency wasn’t a marketing angle but the actual operating principle. That meant full disclosure on every ingredient and every dose, no hidden blends, and formulations backed by batch-level testing. The idea was simple: if consumers could finally see exactly what they were consuming, trust in the category would follow.

2. What are some of the key factors that differentiate Clear Supps from other sports nutrition brands in the market?

The clearest differentiator is disclosure. Most brands in this category rely on proprietary blends that list ingredients without stating exact amounts, leaving consumers to take label claims on faith. Every Clear Supps formulation discloses every ingredient and every dose, with nothing hidden behind a blend name. We also back that transparency with batch-level testing, so claims like “banned substance free” are verified rather than assumed – a detail that matters directly to competitive and tested athletes. Beyond formulation, we’ve taken a different approach to marketing too, building campaigns around real athletes who actually use the product rather than stock fitness imagery. At every layer, the goal has been consistency between what we claim and what we can actually demonstrate.

3. How does Clear Supps ensure consistency and quality across its products, from sourcing ingredients to the final product reaching consumers?

Quality has to hold at every stage, not just at the formulation stage. That starts with careful ingredient sourcing and doesn’t stop until batch-level lab testing confirms that what’s on the label matches what’s actually in the product – checking for accurate dosing, contamination, and banned substances before anything reaches a shelf. Documentation is treated as seriously as the formulation itself, so batch numbers and testing records stay traceable. We’re also conscious that quality can degrade after manufacturing if storage and handling aren’t taken seriously, which matters more in Indian conditions than in many markets. Consistency, for us, means the same rigour applies whether it’s the first unit off a production run or the ten-thousandth.

4. How does the brand approach product formulation while balancing efficacy, quality and consumer expectations?

Every formulation decision runs through the same filter: is this dosed at a level that’s actually effective, and is it something a consumer can trust and use consistently? Efficacy isn’t negotiable – an ingredient only makes it onto a Clear Supps label if it’s included at a dose supported by real research, not a token amount that looks good on paper. Quality follows the same logic, with sourcing and testing standards that don’t bend for cost or speed. Consumer expectations come in through practicality – taste, mixability, and ease of use matter just as much as the science, because a perfectly formulated product still fails if people can’t realistically use it as part of their routine. Balancing those three isn’t a trade-off we try to minimise; it’s the actual brief behind every product we build.

5. As Clear Supps continues to grow, what are the brand’s key priorities and plans for the next phase of its journey?

The priority is deepening the trust we’ve built rather than growing for its own sake. That means continuing to expand our product range deliberately – we’ve followed a sequential rollout rather than launching a large catalogue at once, testing and refining as we go rather than moving faster than our quality standards can support. We’re looking closely at new categories, including recovery-focused nutrition, where we see the same kind of formulation gaps we originally built Clear Supps to solve. Longer term, the goal is for Clear Supps to be the brand Indian consumers default to when they want certainty about what they’re consuming – and to make sure that as the category matures and transparency becomes an expectation rather than a differentiator, we’re already there.
